JLS Rules
Our Boats
BWRYS Inc like a number of clubs in NSW adopted the Soling One Meter as an entry level class. Soling 1 Metres can be acquired from America in various states of completion. There are two builders and their details can be found from the American website.
The JLS is an Australian version of the Soling 1M launched in 2018 to address issues procuring the Soling 1M from the US. It has proved impossible to detect any difference in performance between the two boats. JLS boats are available from two local builders. Email [email protected] for more information.
This boats sail well, responding nicely to steering commands and not being prone to "nose-diving" in a breeze as with many other boats. Not having a bulb on the bottom of the keel is also advantageous for not snagging weed etc. Another benefit of their superior handling is that only one size of rig exists removing the need to be changing rigs during a series of races. The sheets are controlled via swivelling arm rather than a drum winch as required on narrower boats. Drum winches experience a lag time in responding to sheeting commands.
The philosophy behind the boats is that a first-time skipper should be able to get into model yacht racing with a boat that has essentially no performance differences to other boats in the fleet.
